Kendrapara, Mar 23: Yesterday a 28-year-old man was taken into custody by the rural police here on charges of befriending a 19-year-old girl on facebook and later sexually assaulted her. The name of the accused is Ramakanta Behera belonging to Basudebpur village in Bhadrak. He has been charged for physically abusing the victim who is from Chandol village here after the former developed intimacy with the victim through facebook. The friendship had bloomed into full-fledged love affair. The accused works in a private company in Bengaluru. He had come all the way here to the girl’s village and eloped with the girl with the promise of marrying her. Behera had consensual physical relation with girl for about a week in lodge in Bhadrak. He later ditched and refused to marry her. The victim gathered all courage to make the accused bear the fruit of his all wrong doings. She confessed to her family members about what happened. Later the victim’s family lodged a complaint with Kendrapara Sadar police. To teach the wayward man a lesson, a trap was laid. The victim was asked by police to invite the accused to her to a designated spot of the native village. The victim, as instructed by police, told him for continuance of the affair without marriage plan. The accused youth was arrested as he had turned up to meet the victim. Both the accused and the victim were medically examined. The accused confessed to the crime. He will be produced to the court tomorrow.
