Malkangiri, May 3: The Malkangiri people can now avail ambulance services for medical purpose by means of the sea through Boat ambulance. It has been launched by the local legislator, Damburu Sisa here. Areas like Malkangiri are cut off areas which have difficult terrains but will now have access to medical services on water. 30, 000 inhabitants across 10 panchayats and 151 villages will get the boat ambulance services with doctors, nurses, pharmacists who will sail to every village to provide healthcare services. These boat ambulances cost around Rs 70 lakh and it has been assured by the Chitroknoda MLA that these boats will be properly maintained so that medical help can be provided at regular intervals. The boat ambulance houses separate cabins for doctors, nurses and pharmacists and special beds for patients and is equipped with facilities where delivery to minor surgeries can be carried out. The boat also has life jackets. Malkangiri SDMO, Uday Mishra informed that these boats will run in villages which are deprived of medical help and these boats will move in two phases of 10 days each for 20 days a month.
