Medical Officer of Government Rajkanika CHC in Kendrapada, Odisha arrested red-handed on charges of taking bribe

Kendrapara, Mar 28: Yesterday the vigilance department of state police arrested the medical officer of the Government Rajkanika Community Health Centre here as the latter was demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 2, 000 from a cab operator at his official residence. The name of the accused is Dr Ajit Das. He was caught red-handed when he was taking the bribe from the complainant Ramya Ranjan Rout. The official had demanded bribe for release of payment of taxi hiring charges. Harassed by this repeated threats of taking bribe, the cab operator had filed a complaint at the Vigilance office. Accordingly a trap was laid. When the complainant handed over the chemical- coated notes to the accused at the pre-determined spot, the sleuths caught him. Thus, the Medical Officer is charged under various provisions of prevention of corruption act. He is to be remanded to judicial custody later today. This was said by the officials of the Vigilance Cuttack Division. The sleuths have also seized all his properties both movable and immovable and are now being scrutinized. Raids have also been conducted in places to ascertain whether the property owned by him was disproportionate to his legitimate sources of income.
