Milk Producers protest against anti-farmer policy of Government:

Puri: April 20: Exhibiting an unique protest against the alleged anti-farmer policy of the state government, members of ‘Odisha Dugdha Utpadaka Sangram Samiti’ pour drums of milk on the roads in front of the district collector’s office here on Wednesday.

The agitating members of the farmers’ body also burnt effigies of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. They demanded a minimum payment of Rs.30 per litre of milk by OMFED and inclusion of Milk in the menu of mid-day meal scheme.

Farmers’ body staged protest after OMFED denied to purchase milk from farmers. “OMFED does not procure milk from SHGs and Farmers. So, it will be difficult for them to repay the loans, taken by them to produce milk’,

Janmejaya Jena, president of the farmers’ body said. Krushna Chandra Jagdev, advisor to farmers’ body said, “The government should change its attitude towards procurement of milk. If government makes provision for milk in mid-day meal then it will be beneficial to both the students and milk producers.”
