Rourkela, Jan 17: A minor girl from Madhupur village who was allegedly set on fire by two youth, for protesting against eve-teasing, died on the early hours of Tuesday at the Ispat General Hospital here.
Following the fire, the girl who was a student of class 10, suffered severe burn injuries and was in a very critical state.
Earlier being admitted to a local hospital at first, her condition worsened and then was shifted to VIMSAR, Burla and then to IGH.
Leading to the death, a three-member team of crime branch visited the hospital. ADM Monisha Banerjee also met the family members of the deceased at the hospital.
While the district administration have made free vehicle arrangement for the kin to shift the deceased from the hospital to their home, an amount of Rs 2000 has also been provided by the Red Cross to the kin as travel expenses, said sources.
Notably, the deceased girl who was set on fire for protesting against eve teasing is a student of TRW School of Madhupurunder Lanjigarh block. Earlier on last Wednesday, she had gone to a near by stream to attend nature’s call. Two Youth identified as Bulu Das and Shyama Sahoo of the same village had passed comments at her, which she protested and later reported to her parents. Leading to this, the girls’ mother warned the youth regarding the act. Which resulted with the youth abusing the girl’s father and later trespassed the house, when the girl was alone and allegedly torched her alive, pouring kerosene on to her.
The Crime Branch is probing into the incident, while six including two prime accused have been arrested in the case.
