Baripada: December 17:
A tragic incident was reported in a village under the Baripada Sadar police station in Mayurbhanj district. On December 15, around 3 pm, a minor girl, just over 5 years old, was taken to a secluded area behind her house and raped by her neighbour Dilip Hembram (24), who is also her maternal grandfather.
When the minor girl cried out in fear, the complainant’s sister, Panmani Baske, who was nearby, quickly went to help and called for assistance. The girl’s mother also arrived, and together they rescued the child from the accused.
The minor girl’s mother filed a complaint with the Baripada Sadar police station the next day, i.e. on December 16 at 1:28 pm. A case has been registered in the police station under No. 257/2025. The accused, Dilip Hembram, has been arrested under Sections 65(2)/64(2)(f) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 6 of the POCSO Act and sent to jail.
