North India Will Be Affected Due To Cold Wave
Almost entire North India is shivering due to the Cold Wave. Cold wave continues in the plains and snowfall in the mountains.
Chillai-e-Kalan, a period of severe winter lasting 40 days, has started in Kashmir from today. Snowfall increases significantly during this time.
The 40-day long chilliest part of the winter season, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh continued to reel under intense cold conditions.
With the introduction of Chillai Kalan, the famous Dal Lake of Srinagar has also started freezing. After this, the temperature remains mostly in minus till the end of January in the valley.
The temperature in Kashmir reached 3 degree Celsius at 10 am on Tuesday.
IMD Press Release said, under the influence of a Western Disturbance as a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan & neighbourhood at lower tropospheric levels, isolated rainfall/snowfall very likely over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh on 22nd & 23rd December.
Thereafter, two Western Disturbances in quick succession, the 1st from 24th and 2nd from 26th December are very likely to influence northwest India. Under their influence,
Light to moderate scattered/fairly widespread rainfall/snowfall is very likely to happen over Western Himalayan Region during 24th to 29th December with possibility of isolated heavy falls over Kashmir region and Himachal Pradesh on 27th December.
Also, as Per IMD, Cold Wave to Severe Cold Wave Conditions prevailed in some parts of East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and in isolated pockets over Haryana, north Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Odisha; Cold Wave Conditions in isolated pockets over Uttarakhand, Punjab, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Saurashtra & Kutch, Telangana and Gangetic West Bengal.
Cold Day Conditions prevailed at isolated places over Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal.
Minimum Temperatures: Nowgong (East Madhya Pradesh) reported lowest minimum temperature of 1.3°C over the plains of the country.
