Nabadigant chit fund scam: Court to decides level of punishment today for guilty MD

Bhubaneswar, May 12: Today the Special CJM court here is slated to decide the level of punishment for the accused Anjan Baliarsingh in connection to the Naba Diganta multi-crore chit fund. After two and half years of his arrest, Anjan submitted his petition through his lawyer at the Special CJM (CBI).

Nabadiganta, under the Registrar of Companies in Cuttack in 2011 had taken around Rs15 lakh from the public in Puri and Cuttack. On Wednesday, Baliarsingh, chairman and managing director of Nabadiganata Capital Services was proved guilty of the charged levelled on him by the public prosecutor.

This court trail is likely to bring in trouble to three political leaders, among whom one is the Mayurbhanj MP Ramchandra Hansda who is an another accused in the scandal. The other two are former legislators Subarna Naik and Hitesh Bagarti. These three have been arrested by the CBI for their alleged complicity.

On Oct 26, 2014, Baliarsingh and two other directors of the company Kartikeya Panda and Pradeep Patnaik, was arrested by the CBI and had been sent to judicial custody within a span of six days. They have been lodged at the Special Jail here.
