Naveen Patnaik inaugurates Fakir Mohan Medical College and Hospital

Balasore: September 03:  Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today inaugurated Fakir Mohan Medical College and Hospital at Balasore, Odisha and unveiled the statue of great Odia Poet Fakir Mohan Senapati installed at entrance of the medical college.

While inaugurating the Fakir Mohan Medical College and Hospital at Balasore, CM said, ‘“The long cherished dream of the people of Balasore has been fulfilled. Now, the strength of seats in seven medical colleges has gone up to 1050 from 321 in 2000’.

Patnaik also spoke on several measures taken by Odisha government for improvement of healthcare facilities in Odisha. Speaking on Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana, he said, Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana was launched with an objective to provide healthcare facilities to nearly 70 lakh families in the State.

Union Minister of State for Health Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Odisha Health & Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena, Higher Education and Industries Minister Ananta Das and Balasore MP Rabindra Kumar Jena were present at the programme.

The medical college at Balasore was built with an investment of Rs 198.51 crore, out of which State has spent Rs 133.26 crore and Centre has provided Rs 65.25 crore.

Similarly, the State has provided Rs 97 crore and Rs 18 crore was invested by Centre for construction of the Rs 115 crore-hospital project. The State has also provided 22.68 acre land for the medical college.

Union Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey said the Central government is taking steps to upgrade the district headquarters hospitals to medical colleges to provide quality health service. Besides, it has been decided to establish one medical college each under Bhadrak, Jajpur and Dhenkanal parliamentary constituencies in Odisha, Union Minister said.
