The Leader of Opposition, Naveen Patnaik will not celebrate the New Year 2025 as the country is observing a seven-day mourning following the demise of former PM Manmohan Singh. Ex Prime Minister Manmohan Singh passed away on December 26.
Following his death, a national mourning for seven days was declared in the country. His last rites were done with full military honours and his immersion was done on December 29.
During his tenure as the Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik refrained from celebrating his birthday after major cyclones hit the coast of Odisha and destroyed properties worth lakhs.
LoP, Naveen Patnaik said that, at this time when the country is mourning the demise of ex-PM Manmohan Singh and the untimely rains have destroyed the crops, he will not attend the New Year celebrations. He also urged people not to visit his residence to wish him for the New Year.
