Bhubaneswar: January 04: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has written a letter to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari seeking his intervention on the improvement of National Highways in Mayurbhanj District.

He said, ‘State is suffering a lot due to lack of timely maintenance/improvement/widening of the existing National Highways (NHs) which are important communication links in the State. Jharpokharia-Keonjhar-Sambalpur NH-49, passing through Mayurbhanj district is not in a traffic-worthy condition and several public complaints have been received in this regard’.

“Further, Hatgamahria-Benisagar up to junction with NH-49 near Singada, passing through Mayurbhanj district has been declared in-principle as an NH from 17th February, 2016. But no improvement work has yet been started,” the letter read.

The Odisha CM also requested Gadkari to consider declaration of – Bhadrak-Anandpur-Thakurmunda-Karanjia-Singada (135 kms), Shergarh-Nilgiri-Kaptipada-Baripada- WB Border (110 kms), Rairangpur-Bisoi-Bangiriposi-Kalabadia (54kms) and Jashipur-Champua (70km), as National Highways.
