Bhubaneswar, Apr 14: Odisha CM, Naveen Patnaik was seen yesterday talking selfies with the two brave girls of Kendrapada, who had become victims of an estuarine crocodile and it was one of the girl (Tiki) who saved the other from the vivacious reptile.
Patnaik was also seen felicitating the duo by giving bicycles to them.
Notably, in a very brave incident, a six year old girl of Kendrapda jumped to the mouth of an estuarine crocodile and fought it, to save her little friend Basanti Dalai.
After Tiki’s courageous incident, the district administration (DA) of the coastal Kendrapara district had recommend her name for the National Bravery Award as the “Tiny Rescuer”, said sources.
Patnaik also inquired about the sisters’ financial condition and has asked the DA to help the family in every possible way needed.
The incident took place when Tiki and Basanti were at the pond where the crocodile attacked Basanti. Finding a bamboo stick next to the pond, Tiki attacked the croc’s face with it. Shocked with the sudden attack, the croc moved back into the pond, leaving Basanti in injured state. Soon she was admitted to the nearest hospital and was treated.
After the incident, though the water body doesn’t comes under the Bhitarkanika range, the forest officials have warned the locals to go near the pond and have declared a compensation for the Basanti’s family and would also bear the cost of her entire treatment, said sources.
