Cuttack: The Cuttack Development Authority (CDA) is set to develop a dedicated Cloth Wholesale Market Zone, commonly known as the ‘Kapada Mandi,’ in Sector-12 of Cuttack.
A 20-acre plot of land in CDA Sector-12 has been earmarked for the construction of this new market. The proposal to establish the centralized wholesale facility was approved during a CDA meeting on Friday, which was chaired by Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra. The meeting was attended by various stakeholders, including CDA Vice-Chairman Anam Charan Patra.
Speaking about the project, Patra explained that the Kapada Mandi will feature shops, godowns, parking spaces, and dedicated areas for loading and unloading goods. The establishment of the centralized market is expected to ease traffic congestion in certain parts of the city, particularly in localities where the existing wholesale trade is causing bottlenecks.
In addition to the Kapada Mandi, the CDA meeting also gave the green light to another significant project — a Commercial and Residential Complex in Sector-13, under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. A 10-12 acre plot has been identified for this development. Patra mentioned that this initiative is part of the CDA’s broader plan to address overcrowding and improve urban infrastructure in Cuttack.
Another key decision taken during the meeting was the automation of third-party property transfers. Currently, these transfers are conducted manually, leading to delays that sometimes stretch for over a year. With the new system, the entire process will be automated, enabling online submission of documents and eliminating the need for residents to physically visit the CDA office. If personal appearances are required, they will be conducted virtually, making the process more transparent and time-bound.
The CDA also approved plans to upgrade the city’s old market complexes. In the first phase, three aging market complexes located in Buxi Bazar, BK Road, and Sikharpur will be renovated or, if necessary, demolished and rebuilt to improve their functionality and appearance.
Patra assured that these measures are part of the CDA’s ongoing efforts to enhance urban development and address the challenges posed by population growth in the city.
