Puri, Sept 24; The Puri Sri Jagannath temple servitor Rabi Das, who had earlier filed a petition in the Orissa High Court seeking bail for his wife’s treatment, was granted with interim bail from September 28 to October 18 by the High Court on Friday.
On August 27, Das was arrested by the police from Duttatota area in Puri after he absconded following the disturbance during Niladri Bije rituals of Lord Jagannath and his siblings.
Also, the confiscation process of properties belonging to 5 wanted servitors- Damodar Mahasuar, Jayakrushna Mahasuar, Saina Khuntia, Bhimshen Palankdhari and Ipsit Pratihari has been initiated by the police after they failed to surrender before police by the deadline set for September 12.
Notably, some servitors had manhandled with media persons and Puri collector, Arvind Agarwal during the Niladri Bije ritual on July 17. The collector was abused by the servitors for refusing them to allow the devotees to climb up the Taladhwaja chariot. The rituals and pahandi of Lord Sudarshan got delayed after some devotees were given the permission to climb up the chariots by the servitors despite of the ban being put upon by High Court and Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA). Reporters who reached the spot to find out the reason of delay in the rituals were misbehaved by the servitors.
