Bhubaneswar, Aug 10; Odisha would not be affected by the barrages constructed on the upper catchment of the Mahanadi River, informed the senior engineer of the Chhattisgarh Water Resources department today.
After the meeting with BJD inspection team at Bilaspur today, HR Kuttari, Engineer-in-Chief (EIC) Water Resources, Chhattisgarh said that in monsoon season, the quantum of water released by the Chhattisgarh government is about 5-6 times the capacity of the Hirakud Dam.
Information regarding the formation of a joint control board has been informed to the Central Water Commission (CWC), by the Chhattisgarh government, Kuttari said.
Regarding the water release during non–monsoon season, the data regarding the water flow at Basantpur barrage has been given by CWC.
Detailed project report (DRP) about the Kelo project has been given by the Chhattisgarh government before the construction of the dam, he further informed.
Yesterday, the BJD inspection team had visited Kelo dam, Seorinarayan Barrage and Arpa-Bhaisajhar barrage. Today, after the meeting with the EIC, Water Resources, Chhattisgarh, the team would visit other project sites.
