Cuttack, Oct 20: As the Sum hospital negligence and its carelessness comes to fore, gradually its noticed that there are hundreds of other hospitals across the state which are operating by violating norms and safety measures that too blatantly.
Starting with the millennium city, it alone has got 300 nursing homes which are running without renewing their registration, while some others are running without permission from Director Medical Education & Training (DMET). As per DMET statistics, out of 332 nursing homes in Cuttack, only 33 are operating with a valid registration. One such being the Shanti Memorial Hospital situated in Thoria Sahi in Cuttack. While the validity of the hospital’s registration ended in 2015, it is yet to renew its certificate. Similarly, Jananee Hospital in Ranihat, Cuttack is operating without DMET approval. It’s stated that a squad would be formed to check other nursing homes here and those running without valid approvals will be served notice having a one month deadline and if these nursing homes fail to get the required approval then these institutions would be sealed.
This was informed by the Cuttack CDMO, Prafulla Kumar Behera. Cuttack Collector, Nirmal Chandra Mishra said that a list of all the nursing homes which all have not received the certificate and are running without it have been asked to be submitted by the Health Department.
Regulation lays down that a nursing home can only operate after getting a Clinical Establishment Certificate from the DMET. Moreover, what is even more surprising is that how the Health department is unaware of hospitals operating without DMET license.
