Odisha Assembly adjourned till tomorrow on sudden demise of Tamil Nadu’s ‘Amma’

Bhubaneswar, Dec 6: In order to pay respect and tribute to the late Tamil Nadu CM, the Odisha Assembly has been till tomorrow 10.30 am after it paid tribute and observed a one-minute silence for the departed soul today. The Speakerarrow, Niranjan Pujari announced after reading out his condolence message in the House. Enumerating about the successful career of late J Jayalalithaa, her journey from an actor to an eminent politician, the Speaker paid homage and announced to convey condolences to the bereaved family. The Speaker elaborated on the fact that the late eminent CM had done some great works in her life before she came into politics. She has been an actor and has acted in around 140 films of different languages including Tamil, Telugu, Kannad and Hindi. She was a member of Rajya Sabha from 1984 to 1989. She had assumed the office Leader of Opposition in Tamil Nadu Assembly in 1989. She had served as chief minister from 1991 to 1996, 1996 to 2001 and 2001 to 2006, 2011 to 2014, 2015 and 2016. She took her last breath on Dec 5 at the age of 68.

After the House came together for the day, the Speaker called upon the Leader of the House and Odisha Chief Minister to move the obituary motion. Chief minister Naveen Patnaik recalled his late Tamil Nadu counterpart’s contribution for Odisha and her State. The Leader of Opposition, Narasingh Mishra also accompanied the CM in offering condolence to the late leader. BJP legislature party chief KV Singhdeo also condoled death of Jayalalithaa.

Union ministers Dharmendra Pradhan, Jual Oram, Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda, Odisha School and Mass Education minister Debi Prasad Mishra, BJD MLA and actor Akash Das Nayak also expressed grief over the sudden demise of the popular AIADMK leader. They tweeted;

“Extremely saddened at demise of Hon’ble CM of Tamil Nadu Selvi J Jayalalithaa;the country has lost a great leader” Dharmendra Pradhan Tweeted.

Union minister for Tribal Affairs tweeted “Deeply saddened to learn the sad demise of Smt. #Jayalalithaa, CM of Tamil Naidu. May the departed soul rest in peace”.

MP Baijayant Panda wrote, “Rest in Peace Dr J Jayalaithaa, political phenomenon of our times”.

“Deeply saddened by demise of #Jayalalithaa #Amma what a charismatic leader she was. May her soul rest in peace. #Ripamma”, MLA Akash Das Nayak wrote.

Notably, the people’s Amma, who suffered a massive cardiac arrest on Sunday evening, passed away at 11:30 pm on Monday night, after she fought for life for 75 days at the Apollo Hospitals.
