Bhubaneswar, Oct 25: The weather review meeting will be conducted at the State Secretariat here today in order to take note of the level of preparations to face the possible cyclonic storm, Kyant. The meeting will be presided over by the Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik. It would also hold discussions on the shift of residents to various safe locations and their safety and other preparatory measures. The CM would be talking to Collectors of Coastal and other districts through video conference. The other officials attending this meeting would be the Chief Secretary, the Police DG, the Revenue and other ministers, secretaries of various departments and official of NDRF, Fire Services, ODRAF and OSDMA.
Notably as per the MeT department, an intense cyclonic storm is likely to occur in the next 12 hours due to the deep depression formed over the Bay of Bengal. Odisha will feel its impact on Oct 27. Due to this storm, the state is likely to witness occasional showers on Oct 26 and Oct 27. Coastal areas and 11 other nearby districts are likely to be affected by the storm. On reaching the north-west of Bay of Bengal, the deep depression will get intensified into a cyclone and move having a wing speed of around 80-90 kmph. Thus, the sea would become very rough as the wind speed would be 45-55 kmph with maximum speed of 65 kmph.
