Odisha Govt for enhancing disaster response capacity at community level

Odisha government has decided to strengthen the State and District Disaster Management Authorities with dedicated manpower support to carry on various preparatory and up-keeping activities throughout the year.

At a meeting of the State Executive Committee of Odisha State Disaster Management Authority, State’s Chief Secretary GC Pati directed OSDMA to take up wide awareness and training programmes on response to the disaster situations like cyclone, fold, draught and fire accidents.

Strengthening the disaster management authorities at State and District level with dedicated manpower and fund support from SDRF and NDRF to carry on the activities like  preparation of disaster management plan, mobilization of manpower, regular updating of data in website, organize capacity building programmes, awareness generation camps, organization of mock drills, training camps for officers at different levels,

mobilization of local authorities, civil societies bodies and community-based organizations for mitigation of disaster was discussed on Thursday at a meeting of senior officials of the State government.

Notably, Odisha Disaster Recovery project (ODRP) has been taken up as the largest disaster resilient housing project in the State.

The project covers 16150 beneficiaries in 178 villages of 7 blocks in the  2  disaster prone districts.
