Multiple departments, including Health & Family Welfare, School & Mass Education, Women & Child Development, Mission Shakti, and ST & SC Development Department, will implement a multipronged strategy for the accelerated elimination of anaemia among targeted groups in Odisha. Today, at the State Headquarters, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched the AMLAN-Anaemia Mukta Lakhya Abhiyan initiative.

The prime minister referred to the mission as a “great leap,” explaining that it is our own initiative to rid the state of anaemia, particularly among women and children.

Launching the programme on a virtual platform, the Chief Minister said, the programme will benefit about 1.37 Crore people, which includes pregnant women, lactating mothers, women of reproductive age group, adolescents and children.

The programme will be rolled out in 55 thousand government and government-aided schools and 74 thousand Anganwadi Centres across the State, Chief Minister said.

He stated that the State Government has focused on the growth of the health sector in our state, citing “Every life is precious” as the guiding concept for all of our endeavours. Odisha has improved a variety of health indices, including immunizations, infant mortality rate, maternal mortality ratio, newborn and young child feeding practises, and undernutrition, as a result of its heavy focus on public health programmes. Nevertheless, he continued, anaemia remains a serious public health concern throughout the nation.

The Chief Minister asked the relevant departments and on-the-ground service providers to collaborate for the successful implementation of AMLAN and the realisation of Anaemia-Free Odisha.
