Polling For Final Phase Of Panchayat Election Begins In Odisha

February 24/ The last phase of Panchayat Polls in Odisha began at 7am and voters shall cast their vote till 1pm. Voters shall vote for 131 131 Zilla Parishad Zones and 974 Gram Panchayats during this phase. As informed by State Election Commission office, 41,88,382 voters will exercise their franchise during the fifth phase of the three-tier panchayat polls in 48 blocks of 25 districts of the State including Swabhiman Anchal.

In total 13,514 booths have been made for smooth polling in the said areas.

As many as 520 candidates are contesting for Zilla Parishad positions in the final phase of the Panchayat polls.

Voters of Malkangiri District’s Swabhiman Anchal, a part of Chitrakonda Block, shall cast their vote after a gap of 10 years.

BSF and Police personnel have been deployed at different locations.

DGP Sunil Bansal had met State Election Commissioner AP Padhi on February 23 and after the meeting, he said, security arrangement has been tightened in the Swabhiman Anchal in view of the fifth phase of panchayat polls.

SEC sources said polling is already over in 78,389 booths out of the total 91,003 booths in the earlier 4 phases.

Also, it is informed by SEC that, State has recorded high voter turnout of 79 per cent in the fourth phase on Feb 22.Sonepur district of Odisha registered the highest 86.51 per cent turn out.
