Bhubaneswar: December 17:
Adarsh Behera, a young man from Odisha, has returned safely from Sudan. After arriving in Bhubaneswar, he expressed his gratitude to both the Central and Odisha governments for helping bring him home. He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
After he was kidnapped, Adarsh was held in a forest for four days because his captors believed he was a soldier. Later, he was kept in jail for about six weeks. He was unsure if he would survive. He ate only every other day and was beaten by his captors.
Once his captors found out he was Indian, their attitude changed. Some kind people helped him, and he was able to contact his family using their phone.
At the inauguration of the Paradip Kalinga Bali Yatra, Chief Minister Majhi told the media that the government is aware of the situation and is working to rescue Adarsh Behera of Kotkana, Tarjanga Panchayat, Tirtol Block, Jagatsinghpur District.
Adarsh was kidnapped by rebels during the civil war in Sudan. The state government has discussed the matter with the Central Government. Because the civil war is still ongoing, bringing him back safely is difficult. The state has requested assistance from the Government of India and maintains regular contact with the Ministry of External Affairs.
The state government sent a letter to the Union Ministry of External Affairs requesting assistance in rescuing Adarsh Kumar Behera, who was being held in Sudan. After hearing about the situation from the media, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi told senior state officials to take action.
After the Chief Minister issued instructions, the Director General of Intelligence wrote to the Union Ministry of External Affairs requesting assistance. The Resident Commissioner in New Delhi also contacted the Ministry, asking them to stay in touch with the Indian Embassy in Sudan to monitor Adarsh and facilitate his return home safely.
