Bhubaneswar, Nov 24: The Commissionerate police on Tuesday arrested an elderly man for raping a minor girl and his wife for assisting him in the flagrant crime at the state capital. The couple was court forwarded yesterday.
The incident took place on Monday night at a slum near Chandrasekharpur, at the state capital when the accused identified as Birsa Murmu attracted an eleven year old girl by offering chocolates and attempted rape on her, with his wife assisting him. The case held a position when the girl narrated the story to her family the next day, followed by the relatives, taking the law into hand, by tying the couple onto a tree and thrashing them until they fainted. On reaching the spot, other than the couple police also arrested a youth identified as Okila Soren for taking law into hand.
Police is searching for others who also participated in forming the kangaroo court and taking law into hand. There has been raids at several places to arrest the other accomplices, said sources.
