Bhubaneswar, Apr 20: Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC) has, for second successive year, achieved highest annual PLF (Plant Load Factor) amongst all the State Sector thermal power units in the country. As per the report published by Central Electricity Authority, Ib Thermal Power Station (ITPS) of OPGC has achieved highest PLF of 87.92% in the FY17 spanning from April 2016 to March 2017 which is also the 5th highest PLF achieved among all power plants in India.
In the FY 2015-16, ITPS had topped the list of state sector generating stations with PLF of 84.5%. It is a result of OPGC’s consistent efforts to maintain efficient power production and aid the State in meeting the power requirements in Odisha.
The above power station of OPGC which currently has two thermal power units of 210 MW each which is in operation in Ib Valley area of Jharsuguda has surpassed many of its own previous records of operational excellence in the year 2016-17 by achieving highest ever yearly Plant Availability Factor of 95.28%, Lowest ever yearly station specific oil consumption of 0.284 ml/kwh and lowest number of start-ups (18 in number).
It is worthwhile to mention here that OPGC is expanding its capacity with a capital outlay of Rs. 11,547 Crore by setting up of 2 units of power plant of 660MW capacity each at Ib Thermal Power station which are under construction. The said units are scheduled to be commissioned towards end of the financial year 2017-18.
