Over 36k women missing in last 4 years in Odisha: CM Majhi

Bhubaneswar: A total of 36,420 women and 8,403 children have gone missing in Odisha between 2020 and 2024, as revealed by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi in the State Assembly.

In a written reply to a question of MLA Chakramani Kanhar, Majhi provided detailed that 421 women and girls have fallen victim to human trafficking across state borders, with the involvement of illegal middlemen.

As a result, law enforcement authorities have apprehended 453 individuals for their role in these trafficking activities, he said. The Chief Minister further highlighted that ongoing efforts to combat this crisis have led to the successful rescue of 1,417 women and 1,857 children.

Moreover, in a significant move against child labour, 748 children have been rescued within the same four-year period.
