Bhubaneswar, Sept 15: The process regarding the ensuing panchayat polls in Odisha’s 25 district has been started by the State Election Commission (SEC). A meeting on this regard was held on Wednesday with the presence of the Panchayat Extension Officers (PEOs).
Formation of new 603 panchayats and inclusion of 415 new panchayats has been finalized, informed, Rabindranath Sahu, Secretary of SEC. In the meeting it was also discussed about the finalization of police stations and the officials dealing with the election matter vacant post, he added.
The information has been collected by the SEC on identification of polling booths, number of booths in each ward and some other equipment used in the election.
The meeting also discussed about how to avoid problems, which were faced in the previous panchayat polls, during this season panchayat polls on February 2017.
Odisha will get around 6814 panchayats after the creation of new 6003 panchayats. Currently Odisha has 6211 panchayats.
