Panchayat Elections: SEC to conduct All-party meet today at 4 in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar, Dec 26: An all-party meet is to be held today by the State Election Commission at 4pm to have discussions on issues relating to the upcoming Panchayat elections which is scheduled to be held in Odisha in February. This was informed to media by Rabindranath Sahu, secretary, SEC. Issues relating to poll itinerary, filing of nominations, poll expenditure and use of vehicles during election and election code of conduct would be the topics of discussion today. It’s stated that the Commission is most probably going to announce the date of election in a couple of days. Elections will be held in 853 Zilla Parishads and 92,045 wards of 6804 Panchayats.

The state government has created 594 new Panchayats who will be participating in the elections next year.

The SEC had previously called for a meeting on Dec 21 but it had to postpone the same as both the opposition parties, BJP and Congress did not attend the meeting due to the state capital bandh on that day called by BJP to protest against death case of Asutosh Mohanty aka Rishi and demanding resign of City Mayor, Ananta Narayan Jena.
