Bhubaneswar, March 31: The Justice PK Mohanty Commission, probing the 2012 Pipli gang-rape and murder case, Wednesday submitted its report to the State Government.

The Commission which was set up January 13, 2012 to probe the sensational gang rape and murder case of Babina Behera has submitted its report after a span of four years.

The rape and murder incident in November 2011 had sent shock waves in the whole state and the then Inspector-in- Charge of Pipili Police Station Amulya Champati was suspended.

Notably, the commission had sought a status report from the government over the number of complaints lodged at different police stations across Odisha regarding the incident.

It also asked the State government to furnish a report about how many cases have been filed at different police stations.

It had also sought to know as to why Agriculture Minister Pradip Maharathy was not questioned in connection with the case.

19-year-old Babina was found in an unconscious state from a paddy field near Arjungoda village within the limits of Pipili police station on November 29, 2011, morning.

There were allegations that the girl was not provided with proper medical treatment. She was under pressure for being an eyewitness in a case of eve teasing and the Opposition had raised a hue and cry accusing politicians of trying to shield the accused persons.
