Paradip, Nov 21: A doppler radar at Paradip to help get early warning about possible cyclones, thunderstorms, excessive rainfall and hailstorms was inaugurated on saturday.
Additional Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, PK Mishra inaugurated the facility in the presence of Odisha Chief Secretary GC Pati and IMD Director.
Notably, prediction was being done through traditional analogue radars which are currently functioning only at Bhubaneswar and Paradip.
The Doppler radars would pinpoint the exact location where a cyclone will hit whereas the traditional analogue radars used for weather forecast are only able to roughly indicate the possible places where the cyclone may hit. The Doppler radars will also forecast volume of rainfall at a particular place at a given point of time.
