October 3
Pipili Bypoll:
Counting of votes has started at 8 am today. Tight Security arrangement has been done for counting of votes.
The election to Pipili Assembly Constituency was held on September 30.
10 candidates are there in the fray including ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) nominee Rudrapratap Maharathy, the BJP’s Ashrit Pattnaik and Congress candidate Bishwokeshan Harichandan Mohapatra.
A voter turnout of 78 per cent was recorded at 348 booths in the by-election as said by officials.
The by-poll was necessitated following the death of BJD MLA Pradeep Maharathy in October 2020.
The Election Commission deferred the by-election thrice due to various reasons. The Pipili by-poll was scheduled to take place on April 17 but was countermanded after Congress candidate Ajit Mangaraj succumbed to Covid-19 three days before polling. Voting was scheduled to be held on May 13 and May 16 but was deferred again.
