Bhubaneswar: Cold, dry and strong wind blowing from the Himalayan region had caused drop in night temperature in Odisha over the last three days providing a wintry feeling, but the day temperature is likely to shoot up to 40 degrees C or even more after the next four days, SOA’s Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) said on Saturday.
There could be minor rise in day temperature between March 8 and 11 but incursion of moisture by south-easterly wind from the Bay of Bengal will maintain the comfort level during the period and it might cause ‘Kalbaisakhi’ on March 9 and 10 at one of two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Balasore districts, Dr. Sarat Chandra Sahu, Director of CEC, said.
The day temperature might rise to 40 degrees C or more in most places of interior Odisha between March 12 and 16 while it could reach 38 degrees C at one or two locations in the coastal plains, Dr. Sahu said.
Moreover, favourable conditions might support the occurrence of ‘Kalbaisakhi’ in the coastal and adjacent districts between March 15 and 18, he said.
