Bhubaneswar, Dec 27: The issue of Polavaram received a strong blow Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharati on Monday said that the construction on the multi-purpose irrigation project was allowed after Odisha along with two other states gave their consent. This information finally reached the media after the Centre through Nabard released an amount of Rs. 1,982 crore to Andhra Pradesh for the irrigation project in New Delhi yesterday. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley handed over the cheque to Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Nadu at an event in the national capital.

Notably the Centre has already released Rs 300 crore for the project in February this year. Bharati stated that Patnaik’s claim in the state Assembly recently that his government has requested for an injunction suit from the Supreme Court against Chhattisgarh’s ongoing projects in upper catchments of Mahanadi, are baseless. However, Patnaik, while addressing he house had stated that he would keep on fighting for the rights of the Odisha people until and unless they are taken into consideration regarding the Mahanadi issue as of now.
