A woman was allegedly gang raped by three youths for objecting to a noisemaking birthday celebration in Odisha capital, police sources said on Wednesday.
Mancheswar Police arrested three suspects for allegedly committing a gang rape against a married woman in the Dhirkut Basti area. On the basis of the victim’s complaint, the Mancheswar police have arrested Debashis Pradhan (24), Deepak Kumar Sethy (24), and Swadhin Kumar Nayak (22) and are searching for others involved in the crime.
The incident which took place in Mancheswar police jurisdiction on December 11 (Sunday) came to light after the survivor lodged a complaint on Monday.
As alleged, on Sunday night, a group of youth were celebrating the birth day party in Mancheswar area and doing lot of noise. The victim asked the youths to be quiet. However, angry over the complaint, the accused youths dragged the woman into a house and took turns to rape her.
When the victim screamed for help, some neighbours rushed to the area and rescued her from clutches of the accused. However, before leaving the place, the accused trio reportedly threatened to kill the victim.
On the basis of the complaint filed by the victim, a case was registered and the accused were arrested under IPC Sections 294, 323, 354, 354 (A), 448, 376, 511, 506 and 34. The three have been forwarded to Jail. The Police has launched a manhunt to arrest the others involved in the incident
