Bhubaneswar, Sept 17: In connection to the Railway recruitment scam that broke out with the arrest of the involved employee, Chandrasekharpur police on Friday arrested actor-turned-producer Ashok Kumar Mallick aka Raju from his residence in the Railway quarters here after investigation revealed his involvement in the scam.
It is alleged that he conned the job seekers with no scope of doubt, by giving tuition to job aspirants at a coaching centre in Satya Nagar by promising employment in exchange of hefty amount and invested the money in his movies.
However, the accused denied his involvement in the scam and said that he has been framed.
As per Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi, seven persons have been arrested so far for their involvement in the scam. But with the arrest of Senior technician of ECoR and Grade-I employee in the Indian Railways, Ashok Kumar Mallick, the number has risen to eight. Mallick is being interrogated to gather more information, Bhoi further said.
Notably, Nayapalli police have arrested two persons and Chandrasekharpur police have arrested six persons including Mallick.
A letter was sent by the East Coast Railway (ECoR) on Monday to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), urging the CBI to investigate into the matter.
