Bolangir, Oct 14: In a case of allegedly thrashing an auto-rickshaw driver, police detained six persons in this connection on Thursday. After the assault, the auto driver named Chaitanya Suna was hospitalized at Veer Surendra Sai Medical College and Hospital (VIMSAR), Burla where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday night.
As per the information, while Chaitanya was returning home in his auto rickshaw on Wednesday night, three youths on a bike hit the auto-rickshaw near FCI Godown on Station Road. After vitriolic word exchange between them, one youth called his friends following which his friends rushed to the spot and severely thrashed Chaitnaya. Later, all of them fled from the spot.
After the incident, Chaitanya was rushed to the district headquarters hospital by the locals and later was shifted to VIMSAR as his health condition deteriorated. However he died at VIMSAR that night.
The family of the auto rickshaw driver and the members of the Auto-Rickshaw Association blocked the station road and demanded compensation and arrest of the main culprit named Jadumani Tandi.
Bolangir Auto-Rickshaw Association president, Lalit Nayak said that request will be made to district administration to pay compensation to the wife of the deceased and his two children.
Informing further, he said that if police failed to arrest the prime accused within four days, the Association will hit the road again and for this the district administration will be held responsible.
As per the information from police officials, several places in the town have been raided by the police till now and six persons have been detained. However, all efforts are being made to arrest the main accused.
