Popular Odia Lyricist Sangram Mohanty dies at 78

Bhubaneswar: Popular Odia lyricist Sangram Mohanty died today at his residence in Bhanjpur in Baripada of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district at the age of 78-year-old.

Mohanty, who was born on January 27, 1947 in Baripada, was suffering from paralysis for a long time and breathed his last at around 7 AM today, said sources adding that his last rites will be performed at Barunei Ghat later today.

As a Lyricist, Sangram Mohanty had penned songs for several Odia films, albums, All India Radio and Door Darshan. Jhuma Jhuma Golapi Belare from the film Abhilasha and Kahana e Phula Kahana from Phula Chandana are some of his iconic songs. He also penned lyrics for Mo Mana Khali Tori Pain’ directed by Gouri Shankar Das and ‘Tume Hni Sathi Mora’ directed by Surendra Mohanty.

People who knew him by persons were impressed by his personalities like humbleness, kind heartedness and down to earth.

Meanwhile, condolences poured-in for Sangram Mohanty following his death. Some eminent persons even visited his residence to offer tributes to the departed soul.
