Bhubaneswar, Feb 8: Around Rs 714 cr has been deposited in Jan Dhan accounts in Odisha in the post demonetization period since Nov 9, 2016 till Jan 25, 2017. The data submitted by the Union Finance minister, Arun Jaitley in Parliament stated that since the launch of Jan Dhan accounts in Aug 26, 2017, Rs 1960 crore has been deposited in Jan Dhan accounts in Odisha. However, the figure increased to Rs 2,675 crore following demonetization. On the other hand, as per the data by State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC), there were 1.13 crore Jan Dhan accounts till September 30, 2016. In the period following demonetization, the total number of Jan Dhan accounts have gone up to 1.21 crore. Such an increase in deposits in Jan Dhan accounts is being seen by the ruling BJD in State as a failure of demonetization in curbing black money.
