Bhubaneswar, Mar 12: And with the partial results of the block Chairman elections, the parties in Odisha have celebrated their Pre-Holi at their camps. The elected panchayat samiti members have finally casted their votes to elect their chairman at about 307 blocks. While the ruling BJD has acquired 218 blocks, BJP has managed to capture only 70 chairman posts.
While the party workers, leaders and activists in Sadar block of Balasore have celebrated their Holi two days before for acquiring 6 blocks out of 12, BJP and Congress also didn’t back up celebrating their victory for capturing 3 each. In Jajpur, the BJD has acquired 8 out of 10 blocks, while congress has managed to capture Korei block in the district.
In the meanwhile, BJP party state general secretary Prithviraj Harichandan has claimed that, their number may rise. We have the information of BJP candidates being elected in 70-72 blocks, he added.
However the BJD has kept its position tight, by winning 218 out of 307 blocks.
Notably the elections in Nuapada and Malkangiri has been put on hold by the Orissa High Court. The election to the post of Zilla parishad which are being held today, it is said that, BJD is likely to get 16 more seats while BJP may bag 7 more.
