Private schools accuse Education Mins for not releasing students’ fees under RTE Act

Bhubaneswar, Dec 10: A day after the School and Mass Education department threatened to take action against majority of private schools in the State for flouting Right to Education (RTE) Act, the school authorities have accused the former for not releasing fees of students admitted in respective schools under the Act.

Notably, the School and Mass Education minister at the Assembly said, about 212 private schools in the state capital are violating the RTE Act of reservation of 25% of total seats for weaker sections. As per RTE Act the reservation is mandatory but the institutions are not abiding by the norms, said the minister. As per the Act it is mandatory for reservations of 25% of the total seats for the students of the weaker section of the society. The ministry has asked the schools to implement the Act, while a committee has also been formed for this.
