Bhubaneswar, Sept 18: Polytechnic Education is truly a burning topic for streamlining youth into productive workforce through employment and start-ups. The Polytechnic Education can be implemented in a more qualitative and effective manner in order to create ample employability said Sri Sanjay Kumar Das Burma, Minister Food Supply, Consumer Welfare, SD&TE inaugurating Regional Convention of Polytechnic Education in Eastern State yesterday.
Minister Sri Dasburma said that efforts of our Government has taken this mission to a greater extent under the dynamic leadership and guidance of Naveen Patnaik, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha. This will attract more and more investments in Industry Sector to the tune of more than Rupees 7 lakh crores which will certainly lead to generation of employment for the local youth. Now Odisha is the Technical Hub of the Eastern Region of India due to its political stability.
He emphasized that State is implementing Odisha Skill Development Project with basic objective to take care of the Skills ecosystem in the State. Finishing skill training to 2 lakhs youth basically Diploma & ITI pass outs and other graduates leading to employment in the national and overseas market & creating a pool of 20,000 talented trainers and Master Trainers have been focused under the Project. Efforts have been made to support Government Polytechnics with modern infrastructure, workshops, laboratories, hostels and human resources as per norms. Student’s welfare schemes for ST, SC, PwD, wards of Building and other Construction Workers attracts poor & meritorious students for pursuing Diploma courses.
Minister however stressed on converting the existing Kolkata Extension Centre of National Institute of Technical Teachers’ Training and Research at Bhubaneswar to be full-fledged along with fulfilling the long standing demands of OPECA & OPESA for academic reforms and disposing various Govt. proposals for affiliation and other academic activities, pending with AICTE. He also stressed on formulating new curriculum for diversified employment avenue at least for another two decades. There is ample scope created by the state government for youth to compete at a national and global level.
Chairman, AICTE, Prof Anil Sahashrabudhe said the issues related to technical education should be addressed collectively. In Odisha there is an access to quality education with increase number of technical institutions. Now the time has come to create entrepreneurship ability with the support of technical institutions. The required number of skilled workforce was to be fulfilled as per the demand. Industrial houses should extend their hands in designing curriculum in order to meet required industrial challenges. He informed the various steps taken by AICTE for providing the quality educational support to the interested persons in technical sphere.
Among others, Secretary HE, Assam Mrs Krisna Gohain, Secretary SD&TE, Odisha, Sri Sanjay Kumar Singh, spoke on the occasion for improving quality education to provide skilled manpower and fulfill the gap between theoretical and practical side of the curriculum. Director, Technical Education and Training Sri Balwant Singh gave welcome introduction at the convention.
