Bhubaneswar, Feb 10: Business of tribal articles from different district of Odisha was to the tune of nearly Rs 8 crore during the fortnight-long Adivasi Mela which concluded on Tuesday.
Initial estimates suggest business worth Rs7.5 crore was done at the fair showcasing tribal life, culture, handicrafts and food items by those who had set up stalls at the fair.
The annual event witnessed over 15 lakh footfalls.
The food courts attracted a huge number of visitors with the aroma of tribal delicacies from almost all tribal dominated districts of the State.
Tribal handicrafts of Gajapati, Kondhmal, Sundergarh, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Koraput, Malkangiri and Rayagada district had a large number of customers, officials supervising the Mela claimed.
Baripada ‘Mudhi – Mansa’, Keonjhar ‘Badi’, Gajapati ‘Palua khiri’ and ‘Mandia Khiri’, Keonjhar ‘designer Bara’ at the food courts inside the mela was a huge draw, said the officials.
The government departments put up stalls to publicise the achievement of government during the fair.
Several women Self Help Groups were encouraged by the organizing department to showcase their achievements through tableaux and stalls.
