Sabitri holiday on May 26 confirms Odisha Government

Bhubaneswar: The controversy relating to the date of Sabitri has finally been laid to rest as the Government of Odisha has declared holiday on May 26. This has been done in consultation with Puri Mukti Mandap and other religious institutions and after verification of the Hindu almanac (Panji)

The release from the office of the Chief Minister read as follows, “Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has decided to change the official holiday for Sabitri Amavasya from May 27 to May 26. The proposal in this regard has been approved.”

The letter further read, “It is worth noting that this year the official holiday for Sabitri Amavasya was fixed on May 27. However, after contacting Puri Mukti Mandap and other religious institutions and calendar counting institutions, it has been informed that Savitri Amavasya will be celebrated on May 26.”

Therefore, the holiday date has been changed and the holiday shall be given on May 26. it is worth mentioning here that, Sabitri brata is observed to seek long life of the husband. It is a puja that is typical to the Odia society.
