Kendrapara: A primary school teacher was sent to jail for allegedly raping a minor girl student in Odisha, police said on Tuesday.
The accused teacher, Ranjan Kumar Sutar, was arrested on Sunday by Pattamundai Rural police in Kendrapara district following a complaint lodged by the victim’s mother. As per the police complaint, Sutar raped the Class – V girl student on September 21 during school hours and threatened her not to disclose the ordeal before anybody, said Pattamundai Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Khyamasagar Panda.
The accused teacher was produced before a local court on Monday and later sent to judicial custody as his bail plea got rejected. He has been arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, said police. The POCSO Act is a comprehensive legal framework in India designed to safeguard children from sexual abuse and exploitation.
