Seized old currency notes unable to be exchanged at RBI; lying with Baripada police

Baripada, Mar 30: Till now, at some places old demonetized notes are still lying which haven’t been exchanged, even though the deadline of exchange is over. One such place is here where the Jharpokharia police of Mayurbhanj have been unable to exchange old notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 seized from various cases. They are continuously struggling between the legal and banking norms. It’s stated that the cops had approached the regional RBI office in the capital city on Mar 16 but the officials denied to exchange the notes stating that the deadline is over, although the court had given them the permission after much efforts to deposit the amount at the RBI within Mar 31. This was informed by Abhimanyu Nayak SDPO, Baripada to the media.

Rs 2.88 lakh comprising of 185 notes of Rs 1000 and 2017 notes of Rs 500 have been seized and are lying with the police. The cops have stated that they would once again ask for the court’s assistance to sort out the matter.
