Sensex edges up 40 points on IT rally

MUMBAI, SEPT 24:
The benchmark BSE Sensex today ended marginally higher by 40 points at 25,863.50 with investors preferring to sit on sidelines ahead of the Reserve Bank’s monetary policy review next week.
IT stocks, Infosys, TCS and Wipro were in demand as the rupee weakened against the dollar.
After resuming lower at 25,798.05, the Sensex hovered in a range of 25,949.90 and 25,670.96 before closing at 25,863.50, showing a gain of 40.51 points or 0.16 per cent.
The broader Nifty ended up by 22.55 points or 0.29 per cent at 7,868.50 after trading between 7,804.10 and 7,894.50.
16 scrips ended higher from the 30-share Sensex pack.
The BSE sectoral winners included, IT (2.02 pc), consumer durable (1.98 pc), teck (1.59 pc), FMCG (0.98 pc), healthcare (0.74 pc), realty (0.59 pc) and auto (0.10 pc).
The market breadth remained positive as 1,442 stocks ended in the green while 1,245 finished lower and 118 ruled steady. The total turnover rose to Rs 2,567.09 crore from Rs 2,474.90 crore yesterday.
