Martyr Odia Police personnel to get Shaurya Chakra:Awarded for exemplary bravery, valour & courageous action

August 14: Ministry of Defence, Government of India has announced Saurya Chakra for two Odisha Police personnel (1) Martyr Commando Debasis Sethy of SOG and (2) Martyr Commando Sudhir Kumar Tudu of SOG. Saurya Chakra is awarded for exemplary bravery, valour and courageous action.
Both Shri Sethy and Shri Tudu were engaged in operation against LW Extremists on 9th September 2020 in dense forest near village Sikri in Kalahandi district. Both put their own lives in danger and showed exemplary bravery.
Martyr Debasis Sethy joined Odisha Police as Constable on 1.10.2013 in 7th SIR Bn., Koraput. He was inducted in SOG on 10.3.2016. Since his induction he had worked with great zeal and enthusiasm in the field of anti-Maoists operation.
He attained Martyrdom on 9.9.2020 while fighting with Maoists in the dense forest near village Sirki under Madanpur Rampur PS of Kalahandi district. He had been awarded with DGP’s Disc (2018-19) and DGP’s Disc (2020-21) for his devotion to duty.
In this exchange of fire, Martyr Debasis Sethy on his own volition taking cover behind rocks and trees advanced towards the Maoists camp.
His tactical & valiant advancement, putting his life in danger rubbed on other team members of the assault team. Advancing against heavy firing during extreme adversities and very challenging terrain did not deter him.
He successfully countered them displaying exemplary bravery and courage. Against this charge of the brave heart not only the Maoist had to retreat but they also suffered casualties.
In this process he sustained three bullet injuries, yet he successfully engaged the Maoist insurgents ignoring his extreme physical pain.
Due to his gallant effort and determination the Maoist insurgents could not mount a flanking attack on the police team.
He played a prominent role by fighting courageously and valiantly and this saved the lives of other Commandos of Police team.
He attained martyrdom during this exchange of fire, fighting bravely and valiantly. In the above gallant action, 5 hardcore Maoists were neutralised.
In recognition of the bravery and gallant action of Martyr Debasis Sethy, Government has awarded him with ‘SHAURYA CHAKRA’ posthumously in honour of his supreme sacrifice.

Martyr Sudhir Kumar Tudu joined Odisha Police as Constable on 6.9.2013 in 1st IR Bn., Koraput. He was inducted in SOG on 10.6.2018. Since his induction he had worked with great zeal and enthusiasm in the field of anti-Maoists operation. He attained Martyrdom on 9.9.2020 while fighting with Maoists in the dense forest near village Sirki under Madanpur Rampur PS of Kalahandi district. He had been awarded with DGP’s Disc (2020-21) for his devotion to duty.
In this exchange of fire, Martyr Sudhir Kumar Tudu bravely came out from safe cover risking his life and advanced towards Maoist. During advancement there was imminent danger to his life as he was in the firing zone of the Maoists. He moved stealthily taking advantage of the terrain and managed to get inside the Maoist camp.
He acted in a brave and gallant fashion even when he knew that there was imminent danger to his life. He was outnumbered when he entered the Maoist camp. He marched ahead taking extreme risk in an attempt to thwart the design of the Maoists to inflict heavy casualties on the Police party. He went inside the camp resisting heavy fire and managed to attack the Maoists and make them retreat deep into the forest. He fought valiantly and inflicted heavy casualties on the Maoists.
Shri Sudhir Kumar Tudu played a prominent role by fighting courageously and valiantly and this saved the lives of other Commandos of Police team. He, however, attained martyrdom during this exchange of fire, fighting bravely and valiantly. The success in this operation depended largely on the valiant effort of the brave heart. He contributed a lot to force the Maoist to retreat and thereby further loss of life and collateral damage could be avoided. In the above gallant action, 5 hardcore Maoists were neutralised.
