Bhubaneswar, Nov 15: Yesterday the Odisha citizens here witnessed a very rare sight almost after 69 years. They saw the Super Moon which is called as the November’s Full Beaver Moon, which is actually a very rare celestial feature.
Subhendu Patnaik, the deputy director of Pathani Samanta Planetarium, Bhubaneswar, informed the media that a full moon is called the November’s super moon because this time the full moon is said to be at its perigrer or the shortest point to planet Earth during the lunar orbit at a distance of 48,280km. He further informed that the Super Moon visible was almost 14 percent larger and nearly 30 percent brighter than what is usually witnessed during general full moon days. It’s stated that this sight of the full moon was not only the closest and brightest supermoon of 2016 but also the largest since it had last appeared in 1948.
The full moon will not come this close to Earth again until November 25, 2034.
