BHUBANESWAR, OCT 5: Silk Air, the low-cost Singapore airline, will operate flights from Bhubaneswar to Singapore beginning December this year.
A delegation from Silk Air recently visited Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here to see the facilities available at the airport.
According to sources, the airline will take a call on launching international air service from Biju Patnaik International Airport after its chief visits the airport for an assessment in the third week of October.
While Silk Air has already obtained permission from the Civil Aviation ministry, it is hopeful of getting clearance from the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) soon to start the international operation. After this, the airline will submit a flight schedule to the BPIA authorities. On completion of all formalities within the next two months, the airline will operate flights from BPIA, said Silk Air sources.
Silk Air plans to operate a 180-seater Airbus A320 aircraft for the Bhubaneswar-Singapore flight. There will be 148 seats in the economy class and 42 in the business class while fares can be as low as Rs 10, 000-12,000 if tickets are booked in advance.
The flight would leave Bhubaneswar at 10-11 pm and would land in Singapore at 5-6 am the next morning after a stopover either at Vishakhapatnam or Chennai.
Silk Air authorities are also planning to make it a feeder flight for passengers arriving in Bhubaneswar from New Delhi through Air India, Indigo and GoAir after evening.
