Skill Development Training been carried for Persons with Disabilities in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, July 1: A valedictory ceremony was organized in the Conference Hall of VRCH on Thursday, where Shri Niten Chandra, the Principal Secretary to Government, Department of Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) of Government of Odisha was the Chief Guest, whereas the Guest of Honour was Mrs. Mansi Nimbhal, the Director of the Department of SSEPD.

In April-June’ 2016-17, 38 members of Persons with Disabilities have been trained with skills such as 25 in Dress Making Training and 13 in Computer Fundamental Training by the Vocational Rehabilitation Centre for Handicapped (VRCH) under the Ministry of Labour and Employment of Government of India and Department of Social Security and Empowerment for Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) of Government of Odisha, which is sponsored by Odisha State Employment Mission of Government of Odisha. Out of the 38 trained PwDs, 16 were male and 22 female which is around 42% and 58% respectively.

Trained 25 disabled were provided Sewing Machines and 38 PwDs were honored with Completion Certificates in the event. Among the trained candidates a row of happiness, full of self-confidence, line of positivity, self-assurance were noticed. The guests also assured to support in the coming days whenever needed.

During the training, Tool Kit Sewing Machines were also been handed out to the trainees of Dress Making, thus encouraging them to set up their own start-ups. A sum of Rs73.78 lakh has been sanctioned for the ongoing financial year by the Odisha State Employment Mission Society of Government of Odisha for imparting skill training to 360 number of persons with Disabilities in altogether 6 trades such as, Tailor, Accounts Assistant using Tally, Computer Hardware Assistant, Electrician Domestic, Beauty therapy and Hair Styling Level, Repair and Maintenance of Personal Electronic Devices. Post training, 2 trainees are already placed in the Industry.

The Principal Secretary stated that a list of trainees will be shared with Collector and District Magistrate of the concerned district of trainees, for extending cooperation to avail services laid under different programs of government.

Shri Ram Kishore Sharma, Assistant Director of VRC for Handicapped, Bhubaneswar, Government of India, delivered the Welcome Address.

Shri J. Padmanav Rao, a young professional of MCC-VRCH, Bhubaneswar proposed the thanksgiving note.
