Kohima, Feb 6: Union Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy has said skilling youth was the biggest challenge and promised to skill the youth of Nagaland at their doorsteps. Youth of the northeast region, particularly Nagaland have the potential to work in various sectors but the required orientation was absent, Rudy told a programme “Skilling the youths of Nagaland” at Dimapur district Thursday.
The Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Parliamentary Affairs underlined the importance of direct connection with the youth.
“Ten years of education with ten weeks of training can take you to a job and that is the motto of my Ministry,” he said and Rudy assured setting up of ITIs in Nagaland districts which do not have them, besides a model ITI of international standards.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given special instruction to do whatever possible for Nagaland, Rudy said and appealed to the state government and the colleges to partner with the ministry in skilling the youths by providing required infrastructure.
“We will bring industry partnership of the highest level and we have a whole plan for the state of Nagaland,” said Rudy, who also laid the foundation stone of a government ITI.
Nagaland Chief Minister T R Zeliang in his speech said lack of industrial activities in the state has been a stumbling block for gainful employment of the youths and felt that skilling them needed to be done with urgency and sincerity. He requested Rudy for ITIs in all districts of the state and sought his support for a regional world class skill centre, for which requests had been made to DONER ministry.
